Product Description
Carboor Harvest Dry Roasted Hazelnuts are drum roasted in small batches using the best available Barcelona or Ennis variety hazelnuts from our own farm and those of our grower partners around Australia. The hazelnuts are lightly dry roasted (no oil) at a low temperature to preserve the high nutritional value of the nuts but reduce the moisture levels and free the natural oils. Following roasting, the nuts are cooled and peeled before packing.
This product is as natural as you will ever get! It is not pasteurised so does carry residual risk of mould and salmonella (normally eliminated by the pasteurisation kill step) and is not treated with insecticide, so there is a minor risk of pantry moth. Pantry moth is a major problem with nuts as larvae lay eggs in the nuts before development of the hard shell during the maturation process on the tree. Roasting is the only kill step used with this product, but it is at a low temperature so that it doesn’t destroy the nutritional value, but it also means that pantry moth and mould spores survive the roasting process.
All retail variants of this product (125g, 250g, 500g and 1kg) are packed in re-sealable stand-up pouches. The wholesale variants (4kg and 12kg) are packed in cartons with plastic liners.

All hazelnuts are cracked at our cracking facility in East Wangaratta.
Usage Suggestions
Carboor Harvest Dry Roast Hazelnuts are a delicious addition to lunchboxes or added to trail mix. Use in your own hazelnut butter. Eat with handfuls of dark chocolate and fresh apple for a 3.30pm pick-me-up.

Allergen Advice
This product contains tree nuts and is made/packed on equipment that also packs other tree nuts (hazelnuts, almonds, pecans, walnuts, pistachios, macadamias, cashews, brazil nuts) and peanuts. We use best practice cleaning procedures but cannot guarantee the absence of any allergen.
Recommended Storage
This product should be stored in the original packaging or alternative airtight container in a cool, dark place. It is possible, but not necessary to refrigerate to extend shelf life.

What is the issue?
We try our best to provide our customers the most natural nuts, dried fruits and other products available on the market. For example, our hazelnuts are as nature intended.
During nut set, sometimes small moths can enter the nut prior to the hardening of the nutshell. Other producers manage the risk by pasteurising or spraying with insecticides. We don’t, and as a result it is possible to sustain an outbreak of pantry moth.
How you can extend shelf life
All nuts and dried fruit are semi-perishable products and should be stored in cool facilities (under 15C) to ensure long lasting freshness and also avoid growth
of pantry moths and other pests. Nuts do store well in refrigerated storage with no impact on product quality.
It is best to check your stock frequently and rotate stock – using a first-in, first-out process – and ensure use prior to the “best before” date to avoid spoilage.
Due to the products being natural, spoilage and pest infestation can occur due to
warmth and humidity even if the products are sealed – even unopened in the original packaging.

Shelf Life
When stored in accordance with the Recommended Storage practices identified above, this product has a shelf life of 12 months. It is marked with a batch number and “Best Before” date for consumers reference. The product should be consumed within 3 months of opening.

I have previously been extremely happy with everything from Carboor, but this latest batch of Roasted Hazelnuts is a very mixed bag (pun intended). The nuts vary widely in size, and range from (seemingly) not toasted at all, through to being so over-done they taste horrible and are dry and crumbly. What makes things worse is I attempted to contact them about this (mostly just to say hey, this batch number might have issues in case that's something you monitor), but I've never heard back from them. I've tried contacting them in the past about finding a piece of hard shell too and never got a response then either.. Ehh I hope it's due to some technical issue and not just complete disinterest in customer service, but this is the 3rd time I've tried to add this review and for some reason it never shows up online. At this point I will be looking elsewhere for my nuts for a bit.

I'll admit that I didn't think I liked hazelnuts... until I tried these. It was actually just because all the hazelnuts I've tried in the past were not fresh like these are! Now we have them as a pantry staple - my kids love them for afternoon tea after school, and they're great for trail mix for hiking too.

Since our inception in 2015, Carboor Farms has been dedicated to crafting premium nut-based products under our Carboor Harvest brand.
