The Night Before Christmas (2021 Update)

The Night Before Christmas (2021 Update)

** This classic poem was penned by Clement Clarke Moore in early
1800’s New York.  He is forgiven for the obvious errors he made in
the original version as it was long before the rise of courier issues
(and before the founding of Carboor Harvest).  We have taken artistic
licence to bring it up to date for Australia in 2021 **

'Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The stockings were hung by the chimney with care,
In hopes that St. Nicholas soon would be there;

The children weren’t nestled all snug in their bed,
Disappointed and cried themselves to sleep instead;
‘Cos though the connote said delivery last week,
Many frustrated calls to the couriers were made for answers to seek;

Around the base of the brightly decorated tree,
With tinsel and flashing lights, but of gifts it was free;
From November, many a gift on eBay and Amazon was bought,
“We have plenty of time for delivery”, Dad had thought;

Yet now 2021 draws to a close and today is the big day,
The house is cleaned, turkey is thawing but gifts cause dismay;
What o’ what can we gift to sweet Aunty Leal,
When we play Secret Santa straight after the meal;

Yet suddenly Mum remembered with relief,
Aunty Leal’s nutty health benefit belief;
“We have almonds and walnuts and hazelnuts too,
Roasted and salty and sweet and delicious – they’ll do!”

Mum and Dad looked at one-another and pumped fist,
As they thankfully mark Aunty Leal off the list;
Remembering the email offer from Carboor Harvest in November,
Another 11% discount, very pleased they both were;

But now it is 2am and Santa’s cookies are eaten,
The final three names on the list make Mum and Dad feel beaten;
No Playstation, Lego or Bicycles for children on this day,
Sadly no deliveries by Auspost, TNT and Fastway.
